I was delighted to be asked to be contacted by English Australia to present a plenary session for their upcoming EdTech Symposium (July 13th – 15th.)
My colleague Neil Anderson and I have a special interest in Task-Based Learning (TBLT) and published Activities For Task-Based Learning (2019) to remedy the dearth of bespoke tasks to-go for ELT teachers.
We started our Fluency First ELT blog last year during the lockdown to provide material (texts, tasks and ideas for language feedback) specifically for teaching online. In our presentation, we will summarise some benefits of Task-Based Learning (TBL/TBLT) as an approach to communicative language teaching, and recap the defining features of a task. We’ll also describe some practical examples of the tasks which we migrated to an online environment, and show how we use simple EdTech tools to facilitate key parts of the task cycle.
