We work hard to ensure that trainees on CELTA (and our other training courses) are encouraged and supported in their professional development. We want your experience to be valuable and rewarding, and as stress-free as we can make it. Below are comments from teachers who have taken CELTA with Neil and our other trainers.

“Completing the CELTA course gave me concrete tools, techniques, and strategies that have helped me become a more effective English language teacher. Its teaching practicum hours helped me develop key skills (such as active listening, classroom management, and thinking on my feet) and gain greater confidence in myself as an English language trainer. Constructive feedback and supportive encouragement from the course tutors allowed me to identify exactly where and how to improve my teaching and helped me to believe in myself through challenges I encountered. Theory was well balanced with practice, and I found the session topics interesting, relevant, enriching, and conducted in a fun way by the tutors. The small size of the tutoring groups allowed me to form camaraderie and mutually supportive bonds with my group members, which made my learning more enjoyable and helped me to better integrate what I was learning on the course.”

“As a teacher with a background in Applied Linguistics, and having taught young learners, CELTA was a challenge for me. Yet Neil was my tutor – one reason I overcame the fear and why I always advise other teachers to take the course. He was so patient, had exceptional methods for teaching, gave precise feedback and would lift the trainees up at any moment they felt down. Neil also dealt with all trainees equally, bringing the best out of each one. After CELTA , he kept in touch, recommending, consulting and always giving a hand when needed. I’m really glad and thankful I had such a tutor in 2016.”

“I learned so much on the CELTA course that came in handy on my first teaching job in Mexico. First of all, to slow down. Teaching in the US involves rapid talking and lots of repetition, both of which are confusing for English learners. Neil and the tutors patiently and kindly taught me also to exploit the text, use authentic texts, check for understanding, and many other invaluable skills. I was ready to teach speaking, listening and other tricky skills. I felt prepared, equipped. Taking CELTA in a foreign country was challenging, but Neil and the tutors were very supportive and helpful. The hard work paid off, and I am now relaxing in Cancun after teaching my first semester!”

“I completed CELTA in March 2019. It was by far the most rewarding teacher training experience I had ever received. The course tutors were very knowledgeable and professional. They provided guidance, teaching expertise, know-hows,and gave honest and valuable feedback. They kept in touch with me after the course, informing me of teaching positions that I might be interested in. Having completed CELTA, I have worked as an English trainer at Duale Hochschule in Lörrach, as an online English trainer at Learnship GmbH, as a professional English tutor on italki.com, as an English Camp Counsellor at Berlitz, and as a nursery teacher at a kindergarten. I am most grateful to my tutors for shaping me as a highly qualified professional and would recommend them to anyone who wants to pursue a career in teaching.”

“I hesitated to join the CELTA as I already had some experience as a teacher and didn’t know if the CELTA would help me that much. In the end, I absolutely don’t regret joining; I learnt so much, especially thanks to the feedback sessions. It really is priceless to be reviewed by experienced teachers who give you feedback on what you did right and what can be improved with kindness but sharp honesty… I really think the CELTA helped me raise my game as a teacher and I am really grateful to the tutors who were all so dedicated and helpful.”

“Thank you for your enthusiasm and your kindness throughout the training. You obviously love what you do and you do it really well. I’m grateful for your lovely feedback and for you giving me the space to develop materials.”

“Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I had no other choice than to do my CELTA online – and I’m so glad I did! The course was well organized, and the tutors were always available to answer my questions – and there were many! It was intense but oh so worth it. After I finished the course, it took me less than a month to get a job as ESL teacher in France, and I haven’t had a break ever since. Doing CELTA gave me confidence in my skills and the tools to teach English efficiently to speakers of other languages and being trained to teach online is a real bonus: I can adapt to the unexpected lockdowns and manage to keep in touch with my students. I highly recommend the course!””

“I did the four-week CELTA course along with eight other students from all walks of life.
One of the main reasons I signed up for it was because of the hands-on teaching practice, and I wasn’t disappointed. We each gave two 45-minute lessons a week to approximately 10 students… The tutor’s minute-by-minute assessment of our teaching was always spot on and very constructive, because even if you know what went wrong you don’t always know how to ensure it won’t happen again!
Our weekly timetable was well thought out and covered lots of interesting activities. The tutors were very attentive and supportive, and that really helped when coping with the pressure of an intensive course.
I would definitely recommend the CELTA course to anyone who is seriously thinking about teaching English to speakers of other languages.”

“I thoroughly enjoyed and benefited from the CELTA course. It was a fast-paced, highly informative course that gave all the essentials of teaching English, from grammar to classroom presentation. The tutors were well-organized, professional, friendly and above all patient and understanding. You came away with a sense of accomplishment, confidence, and you realized you also had a lot of fun and made some good friends.”
